Shows and News
What’s up sport ball fans? It’s been a minute since our last blog post so here’s a quick rundown of our recent and upcoming activity.
DEBUT ALBUM
This Friday, June 15, we’re packing our bags and instruments and heading down to Austin to begin work on the album with the mighty Ron Flynt at Jumping Dog Studios. We’ve got a dozen or so original songs plus one great cover by Stefan Prigmore to record and we couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Ron. If all goes well, we’ll get this thing in the can by the Fall and released in time for the holidays.
SHAMELESS BOOHOOS
Speaking of Ron Flynt and Jumping Dog Studios, our own Chris Allen Curtis and his lovely wife (and occasional STL backup singer) Gigi Cervantes have released a fantastic album they recorded with Ron called “This Texican-American Life.” With styles ranging from Hill Country Americana to mariachi ranchera to jazzy blues, the album features 12 amazing original songs that spotlight the duos rich song-writing talent. The album is available for download at cdbaby.com/cd/theshamelessboohoos, or you can get a hard copy at any of Chris & Gigi’s or Sam’s shows.
SHOWS
We’re keeping our calendar clear for the moment to make time for recording sessions, but keep your eyes peeled for a mid-summer show to be announced soon. On September 28, we’ll be returning to Fort Worth Live for a co-bill with our friends Left Arm Tan. Rumor has it that show will be recorded for a live LAT album. Looking forward to sharing the stage with those fellas!
WIDE OPEN MIC
Chris and Ed continue to host one of the best open mics in the Fort at Shipping & Receiving every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Sign up starts at 7:30 with performances from 8:00 to 11:00 pm. Come out and do your thang!
AS ALWAYS, big thanks to our friends and fans. Your support is what keeps live, local music happening. We can’t do this without you. Follow us on Twitter @samthelionband.com, Facebook @samtheliontx, and Instagram @samthelionband. We love to hear from you!
